<p>The 154th AS is the group's operational unit and has flown the C-130E since mid-1987. The unit was established at Adams Field, Little Rock during December 1917 as the 154th Aero Squadron and was demobilized between February 1919 and October 1925. Reformed as the 154th Observation Squadron, the unit was mobilized from September 1940 until December 1945. The 154th was redesignated a Fighter Squadron in August 1946 with P-51Ds and call-up to active service again in October 1950, with temporary duty at Langley AFB and later in South Korea and Japan, flying F-84Es. The unit was returned to state control in July 1952 as the 154th TRS, flying RF-51Ds. The squadron re-equipped with the RF-80A in December 1954, the RF-84F in April 1957, the RB-57A/B in March 1958 and the RF-101H in mid-1965. The 154th relocated to Little Rock AFB in 1962 and joined the 189th TRG. The unit was recalled to active duty from January to December 1968 with a period of duty at Itazuke AB, Japan. The squadron converted to the KC-135A in January 1976 as the 154th ARS and upgraded to the KC-135E in 1983. The unit became the 154th Tactical Airlift Training Squadron when the C-130E was assigned in mid-1987.
